After two years of building the OneRouge community together with our partners at MetroMorphosis, we officially announced the process and structure of the 9 Drivers of Poverty coalitions and how you can engage in the work. Together the OneRouge Coalition (ORC) will create an inclusive community culture in our community that leads to equitable opportunity for all and demonstrates everyone's voices, beliefs, and experiences are valued. OneRouge is program co-sponsored by The Walls Project and Metromorphosis. It all started in March 2020 when the pandemic shutdown most nonprofit organizations. A weekly Zoom call served as a wayof collaborating to keep the good work happening. Today, the Zoom call continues, but OneRouge has grown to include a branches of coalitions. On Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, members of the OneRouge coalition participated in the Interfaith Federation's Health and Taste Fair. It was the first event of its kind for the organization and 30 organizations participated. What is OneRouge? The OneRouge coalition started doing Friday calls during the pandemic. The Covid outbreak spurred this recurring meeting so the business, municipal, and nonprofit sectors could share information, listen, and discuss issues via Zoom that are impacting South Louisiana. Amidst the compounding crises of 2020, Raymond Jetson of MetroMorphosis and Casey Phillips of The Walls Project decided to codify the idea of “stronger together”. The result is OneRouge Coalitions, whose mission is to foster an inclusive community culture in our city that leads to equitable opportunities for all. As a movement, OneRouge adheres to a formalized collective impact framework in the hopes of creating systemic change in the capital region by disrupting nine drivers of poverty, one of which is access to affordable housing.
