Executive Summary:
Make notes on where you agree, disagree, or feel that there are gaps in order to advance the work together. During our November Zoom meeting we will begin building metrics around all the goals.
On behalf of co-chairs Adonnica Pelichet Duggan, Dustin LaFont, Tonnisha Ellis, and Trey Godfrey we would like to thank you for the dedication to this collective impact work to build a culture of quality instruction, lifelong learning, and equitable access to opportunity that makes success and prosperity inevitable.
Notes
Activity: Reviewing the Goals and their language
Goal: Raising Literacy Rates
Increase percentage of students able to access existing community literacy resources
Support the development of public awareness campaign prioritizing include diverse storytellers, celebrating and amplifying families & educators
Support the implementation of science of reading and proven best practices
Comments:
1st bullet - Change the language to “community members” instead of “students” - inclusive language (Susie Schowen)
1st bullet - Are we interested in quantifying bullet one? Percentages around the number of readers (Sharmayne Rutledge)
Perhaps include Parents/Caregivers/Guardians in the mission (Kwahid)
How are we supporting the implementation? Will this be in schools? The SOR training is nearly $3K per person and the state will now require K-2 teachers to be trained, will this focus on them? (Dr. Jaleesa Thompson)
Goal: School Buildings as community hubs
Identify and eliminate barriers to providing schools as community hubs including but not limited to cost, staffing, partnership requirements, and policy
Expand digital access in school buildings both in and out of school times
Support development of incubation centers with appropriate community partners
Increase access to k12 spaces for learners of all ages
Comments:
Defining Incubators. There are examples of this, using AI, math programs being able to say what doesn’t work. When you don’t have the ability to test you will waste time/resources on something that might not work in reality (Aimee Moles)
More clarity around the 4th bullet of “increase access for all learners”... to do what? Access for learning, gyms, kitchens? (Krystle Veals)
I can’t help but think of the safety concerns around this. It’s great in theory but I would love to hear the school leader’s input

Scotlandville HS is working with the district to host adult ed on the campus after hours. They really want to integrate and intertwine with the community they serve. Intentional about having community partners involved. (Paul Jackson)
What does this mean for the standing community hubs/centers around BR? Is there collaboration or coordination? (Krystle Veals)
Thinking about transportation in this, as schools are usually already accessible (Adonica)
Positives of proximity Jesse Watson We may want to consider having a calendar or app that allows parents to know about all of the resources, programs, services, and activities that are available. (Sharmayne Rutledge)
Dr. Jones at BRCC is working on a lot coordinated with this goal, it would be great to pull her in (Dr. Jalessa Thompson)
Goal: Early childhood education
Professionalize the understanding of early childhood educators through coordinated public campaign
Support increased access to existing community assets as facilities of opportunities for early childhood expansion
Support EBRPSS investment in microcenters
Work with community partners to identify stable and diverse funding streams to support universal availability of early childhood seats

Lack of sustainable state funding (Lynn Daigle)
Goal: Increase opportunities for continuous learning
Complete a SWOT analysis and map asset in 30 days. Within 45-60 days develop strategies to address the results of the SWOT analysis/asset map.
Support a unified pipeline of student internships from existing partners
Support a benefit-cost analysis to motivate the desire to pursue education and the multiple pathways available. Additionally identify potential funding sources such as grants, state funding, etc.
Identify all educational programs in target areas as well as create an asset map to pathways from degrees and certifications to employment
